Both the Banffshire coast and Speyside are known for their Malt Whisky Distilleries and below are some details that you may find useful if whisky is of interest to you.

Aberlour Distillery, High Street, Aberlour, Banffshire, AB38 9PJ Tel No: 01340 881249. Admission is £12.00 (tour restricted to over 18s), and includes nosing and tasting.

Dallas Dhu Historic Distillery - Forres Tel No: 01309 676548

GlenDronach Distillery & Visitor Centre Tel No: 01466 730202. This distillery can be found on the B9001 (off the A97) from Huntly, near the valley of Forgue. Regular and connoisseur tours are available. Further details can be found at www.glendronachdistillery.co.uk

Glenfiddich Distillery - Dufftown, Keith, Banffshire, AB55 4DH Tel No: 01340 820373 Standard tours are free, with a Connoisseurs' tour available at £20 per person (as at July 2011). Parking is free and there is also a gift and coffee shop. The distillery can be found on the A941, half a mile north of Dufftown.  

Glen Garioch Distillery & Visitor Centre, Distllery Road, Old Meldrum, Aberdeenshire, AB51 0ES Tel No: 01651 873450. Guided tours available Monday to Friday at 10.00am, 110.00am, 1.00pm, 2.00pm and 3.00pm and includes a dram. Charge (as at July 2011) is £4.00 per adult and £2.00 for concessions. Car parking is free with wheelchair access to the Visitor Centre. Further details can be found at www.glengarioch.com 

Glen Grant Distillery - Rothes Tel No: 01340 832118

Glenlivet Distillery, Ballindalloch, Banffshire, AB37 9DB Tel No: 01340 821270. Admissison to this distillery is free and it can be found on the B9008, 10 miles north of Tomintoul in the Cairngorm National park.

Glenassaugh Distillery, Portsoy, Aberdeenshire Tel No: 01261 842367. This distillery is just off the A98 between Portsoy and Sandend. While you are in the area, a walk round the small village of Sandend (and its clean and sandy beach) is recommended. Further details about the distillery can be found at www.glenglassaugh.com

Strathisla Distllery, Seafield Avenue, Keith, AB55 5BS Tel No: 01542 783044. This distillery can be found off the A96 in the centre of keith (near the train station). Admission is £6.00 with under 18s free (price as at July 2011).

Speyside Cooperage - Dufftown Road, Craigellachie, Banffshire Tel No: 01340 871108 Although this is not a distillery, it is well worth a visit as the tour/talk is very interesting......as is the rea-room and gift shop. As far as I know, the cooperage is open all year, Monday to Friday, 9am until 4pm, excluding Christmas and New Year. Check their web site for further details www.speysidecooperage.co.uk
